Christian Right - Christian?...WRONG!
My brother Greg sent me the jokes below. Living out here in Nashville has taught me that the more Churched up someone is, the less likely they are to follow the teachings of Jesus. In the context of an unrelated interview Bruce Lee said "The doctrine becomes the Gospel" It's the same for the Churched up self righteous "Chritian Wrong" as it is for the whack-job sector of the Muslim faith. Jesus was a rebel, he fought against organized religion, he saved the prostitute from persecution and loved his enemies. Jesus never had the opourtunity, on a non christian radio station, to spend 5 solid minutes praying for the local football team. Yes, they did that here. Not for the homeless, sick children, orphans, the folks in Darfur, inoccents killed, our soldiers.... The Football team.
So read these below, and if anybody's reading this blog...add some new ones.
My Prayer:
May the spirit on the one God with many names somehow make it's clear purpose known to all of the elements of it's creation. Let's us rise above man made doctrines and interpretations to find the common thread in all life that IS the image of God.
(1) Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of
homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
(2) Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad
guy when W's daddy made war on him, a good guy when
Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush
needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
(3) Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is
Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital
to a spirit of international harmony.
(4) The United States should get out of the United
Nations, and our highest national priority is
enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.
(5) A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her
own body, but multi-national corporations can make
decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
(6) The best way to improve military morale is to
praise the troops in speeches, while slashing
veterans' benefits and combat pay.
(7) If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents
won't have sex.
(8) A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our
long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and
money.
(9) Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound
policy, but providing health care to all Americans is
socialism.
(10) HMOs and insurance companies have the best
interests of the public at heart.
(11) Global warming, evolution and tobacco's link to
cancer are junk science, but creationism should be
taught in schools.
(12) A president lying about an extramarital affair is
an impeachable offense, but a president lying to
enlist support for a war in which thousands die is
solid defense policy.
(13) Government should limit itself to the powers
named in the Constitution, which include banning gay
marriages and censoring the Internet.
(14) The public has a right to know about Hillary's
cattle trades, but George W Bush's driving record is
none of our business.
(15) Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a
crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then
it's an illness and you need our prayers for your
recovery.
(16) What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital
national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is
irrelevant.

Joe,
First let me state (for the record)that I have religion, but am not a religious person (i.e. I don't quote or thump the bible...I don't chime in,"Praise God" or "Amen" when I agree with someone, either)
I know you're slightly left of center and that I, in contrast, am slightly right of center. So, anyone would wonder how we always seem to see eye to eye on most things. I'll have to say, you've really made some great points. I think both parties have essentially strayed from their margins and skewed the tangent or so to speak.
